Breed History

The Worldwide Australian Labradoodle Association (WALA), defines the Australian Labradoodle as a mix of three breeds:

  • Labrador Retriever
  •  Poodle
  • Cocker Spaniel (English and American).

Historically, the irish water spaniel and curly coated retriever, were infused experimentally in the 1990s, this was found not to be favorable for the breed and no longer part of the breed standrd. WALA, does not allow infusing of any other breeds than the three listed above.
