CARING FOR YOUR Labradoodle Puppy

Please find below recommended items to purchase for your Australian Labradoodle puppy: 

• A large crate, a cosy pet bed that fits inside your washing machine & puppy pads 
• If necessary a stairgate - stair use should be limited to protect their joints.
• Age appropriate chew toy
• Food and water bowls
• Small collar and lead, poo bags, car restraint 
• Age appropriate veterinary endorsed treats for training 
• Basic first aid kit, such as the St Johns Pet Kit
• Ear cleanser 
• ​Slicker brush & metal comb
• Detangler, we recommend Cowboy Magic
• Large towels  I use larger beach towels
• Puppy Shampoo & conditioner 

All Cypress Labradoodle puppy families are given a puppy training ebook and are supported through our WhatsApp group by a highly qualified and reputable dog trainer. 

Labradoodle puppies are incredibly intelligent dogs and with a few simple strategies, training will be very simple. The first 3 months of life are crucial in establishing how your puppy will behave for the rest of its life. This is why we recommend obedience training classes for your puppy at 8 weeks of age (as soon as you take them home). 

This is a brief overview of the puppies diet, we provide comprehensive notes and a sample menu in our Puppy Packs. 

At Cypress Labradoodles we take nutrition seriously and want to give your pup the best diet. This starts from when they are conceived. Our dogs go on a special Mumma and Baby kibble from Royal Canin mixed with Lyka (a human grade pet food) once they are pregnant. 

When the puppies are 3 weeks old we introduce them to puppy mush which we make using Black Hawk puppy kibble and we also introduce Lyka. Both of which we provide in their take home puppy packs. 

Currently your puppy’s diet looks like this: 

Black Hawk puppy kibble with Lyka, your puppy has also tried chicken necks and lamb ribs. We also incorporate pumpkin, cookies chicken breast and raw chicken necks in their diet.

Whilst using premium grade foods can be a little more expensive, we believe a healthier dog will cost you less in the long run! It is important that you research different diet options if you opt to change what you feed your dog as some brands have more fillers and low quality ingredients and are pumped with water.

What we do as breeders: 

Good news! We have already begun ‘toilet training’ at 3 weeks! Labradoodles are intelligentsia dogs & soon get the hang of the grass mats for overnight toileting & navigating the doggy door to do their weed & poops outside during the day!  By 8 weeks all of our puppies are independently navigating the doggy door and having minimal accidents. 

Setting your pup up for success at home: 

The trick once you get home is consistency & limiting the area your dog has access to! Bringing your pup home is probably the biggest day in their lives: new family, new place its all very exciting & a lot for them to take in, so allow them to settle in & start as you mean to go on. We will provide you with resources on toilet training in your puppy pack. We encourage you to initially limit the area of your home that your puppy has access to, take your puppy to the same spot to toilet and offer regular toileting oppotunities to avoid accidents and avoid playing with your puppy during this time outside, as it will distract them, do praise them or offer a reward after they have been to the toilet.

Socialisation between 8-12 weeks is key to a puppy’s development.Due to the pup not being vaccinated fully at this age, ensure you carry you pup in to puppy school, during this time as diseases like Parvo can live in the ground for a decade. After the 2nd vaccine some vets allow  short walks on pavement. It is crucial that socialisation remains a positive experience & age appropriate. We provide all our owners with a socialisation checklist to guide exposure to them to a variety go surfaces, situations, places, people, sounds, dogs and other animals in a positive manor. We do not encourage you to force your puppy if they are scared into a new experience nor overstimulating them. We will guide you on this as well as what type of exercise is appropriate for their age & how much.
